Changes to Lash & Brow Tint Patch Testing in 2023

As lash technicians, you know the safety and satisfaction of your clients is of utmost importance. One key aspect of this responsibility is conducting patch tests for tinting procedures. As of June 2023, the CTPA published new guidelines on the Allergy Alert Test (AAT), affecting how you should now perform patch testing on your clients.

In summary, the procedure now involves mixing together small amounts of the dye and developer, (2:1 ratio) applying it to the inner forearm and leaving it for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, the mixture can be removed. Patch testing should be carried out 48 hours prior to treatment and if there is no reaction within the 48 hours, the tint can be applied. It is also important to highlight that patch testing must be performed prior to every treatment, whether your client is new or not.

If you or your client observes any changes to the normal skin appearance, such as itching, redness, or swelling on and around the test area during the testing time or during the following 48 hours, you or your client should rinse off the test area immediately, must not use or apply the product, and should consult a doctor.

Benefits of the Change for Lash Technicians and Clients

These guideline changes to tint patch testing brings several benefits to both lash technicians and clients alike.
